This course is designed to introduce students to the basic elements of poetry. They will identify some poetic techniques and devices (sound, metaphor, symbols, rhyme.. etc). Therefore, the selections are short and simple. The course introduces a variety of major forms of poetry (sonnet, elegy, lyric, ballad, etc). It should cover a wide range of poets from different ages. By the end of the course, the students will be able to explain the poems in simple language.
